Washington Head Coach Accepts Responsibility for Leaving Jayden Daniels in Game Prior to Significant Injury

Washington Commanders leader Dan Quinn has stated he bears some the fault for a major ailment to the squad’s signal-caller, Daniels.

Details of the Injury and Context

Jayden Daniels, who enjoyed one of the greatest rookie campaigns in history the previous year, sustained a dislocated elbow joint in Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks. Even though the quarterback throws with his right arm, the injury has placed his season in doubt. The condition was significant enough that the television broadcast avoided showing replays and several players looked away as he was treated by team doctors.

Criticism and Coach’s Response

Coach Quinn faced criticism as numerous felt the rookie should not have been on the playing surface to begin with. The injury happened in the final period with the Washington behind 38-7, rendering a comeback unlikely. It is typical in these situations for teams to put in their backup quarterback to prevent harm to their first-string player.

“I get that. I’ve been thinking about it constantly, too, and, man, I erred,” Quinn said of his choice to leave Daniels in the match. “This is 100% on me.”

Aftermath and Team Prospects

Mariota will be the team’s starting quarterback going forward, but he will lead a team in turmoil. After making the NFC championship game last season behind Daniels’s excellence, the franchise have faced difficulties this season. They also lost defensive back Lattimore (torn ACL) and wide receiver McCaffrey (broken collarbone) on game day, and have a number of other key players on injured reserve. The Commanders are 3-6 on the season, and it would take a huge reversal for the club to reach the playoffs.
