Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
