Toronto Blue Jays Secure World Series Matchup With the Dodgers
The outfielder contributed to the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.
Canada's MLB team advanced to their first championship series after 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the final game seven of the ALCS.
Behind three runs to one, Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh frame, leading the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 series victory in the series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, the team that is the defending champions, in the forthcoming championship.
"I'm thrilled for this squad, our city, Canada," said Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "This is such an amazing experience."
The veteran has now slugged twenty-three playoff homers, placing him third in history trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine another player on planet Earth that I want up in that moment other than Springer with his post-season brilliance," said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the early in the series, continue to be the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.
Manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it's going to sting" after his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts throughout the year.
"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of the series," he added.
Toronto secured the World Series on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
