Three-time award winner Nikola Jokic sustains a 'devastating' injury to his knee.
Three-time NBA Most Valuable Player Jokic suffered a "heartbreaking" injury to his knee as the Nuggets lost 147-123 against the Miami Heat.
The Serbian center sustained the injury late in the first half following an inadvertent contact with team-mate Jones.
The other player stepped on the footwear of the MVP, and he immediately fell to the ground clutching his knee.
The 30-year-old, that leads the NBA this season in boards and assists, posted a score of 21 points and eight assists in the contest before suffering the problem.
Jokic will undergo an scan on Tuesday to determine the extent of the issue.
"Instantly, he understood there was a problem," said Denver head coach Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Anyone that is injured, that's gut-wrenching, especially somebody as talented as Jokic. We will know more tomorrow."
"We'll move on as a team. Clearly, at this moment, I am more worried about Jokic as a person and the disappointment of experiencing an event like that."
