The President Welcomes Loved Ones of Attacked Military Personnel to White House
President Trump announced on Sunday that he has invited the family of a Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Tragic Event
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Memorials across West Virginia have occurred in their remembrance.
Presidential Call
The president stated he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both individuals of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump told journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Support
Community members came together over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of the president’s federal initiative to aid policing efforts in DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“She was the individual that instructors wished for. She behaved with quiet strength, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s former high school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was sweet, caring and always eager to assist people.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Measures and Policy Revisions
Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of homicide and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The incident caused the Trump administration to pause refugee claims and halt issuing visas to holders of Afghan passports.
Condition of the Airman
The airman, a resident of the city, enlisted in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi told the program that she aimed to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with honor, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had bravery,” Morrisey told the crowd at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
