New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn shared that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their latest talk.
“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”
Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where his condition is described as critical but stable.
“Don’t know just yet,” he added. “Yet I must mention, hearing him speak, his attitude was encouraging. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”
Authorities released video stills earlier this week of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. No other injuries were reported.
The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday near MSG and Times Square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was transported to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, police said. The assailant escaped.
Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since the news broke. The coach said that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a newborn.
“My initial concern, he has a new baby,” Glenn said. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There is a procedure involved, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.”
Boyd hasn’t played during the current season, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with a shoulder injury that needed an operation.
He signed with New York as a new signing in spring and was projected as an important component of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a practice session on 2 August and was carted from the field.
Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while working his way back.
“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn commented. “I mean, he attends every game. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”
Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of UT in the 2019 draft. He signed with Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with New York in the spring.
