Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at all of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from his teammate by a single point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he rotated at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before sliding over the gravel trap, and was fortunate to get away with just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn approaching the final corner on to the pit straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's car third fastest, over half a second off the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
