Iran Claims Strike on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Regional Military Operations.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a significant and ongoing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity close to the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is uncertain and the US has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - said they have shot down incoming projectiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on Iran carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck locations linked to the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the government.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," it added.
Officials reported wreckage fell on a residential area in the capital, causing some property damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
