Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features several notable adjustments:

  • Each team has only eight human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by real players grant complete experience points, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for players seeking alternative ways to have fun with the title. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are mad.

Community Responses: From Fury to Support

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments another. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and another details everything they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback

All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of options currently available. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
