In a bizarre crossover event that challenges traditional forecasts, the game developer has unveiled an in-game crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the acclaimed anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual holiday event operates from November 25 through December 22, including no-cost additional story content for Shadows players.

Peculiar Questline Disclosed

According to the authorized announcement, "A strange meeting leads protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a original mission, where rumors of banned ceremonies and monstrous transformations reverberate through the shadows." The storyline features a "oddly dressed woman named Ada" who assigns the duo with journeying into the Crystal Cave—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to save her companion from a secret cult.

The questline concentrates on "peculiar trials and a fearsome enemy" and is open to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.

Familiar Settings and Metamorphoses

The teaser features the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was earlier where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The trailer ends with a striking scene showing a character, probably the captive, transforming into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Unique Prizes and Additional Content

Players who accomplish the quest will receive an unique katana alongside multiple artifacts secreted throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also includes purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:

Third Free Story Content

This release also introduces the game's third complimentary story addition, titled "The Mystery." This lighthearted quest pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they trade signature abilities: Naoe debuts a dramatic version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters non-fatal stealth takedowns. Loyal to its name, "The Mystery" also features a new environmental puzzle that may ultimately shed light on some unresolved questions from the main storyline.

This marks hardly the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has crossed over with popular anime franchises. The series earlier featured a 2020 crossover story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Additionally, Valhalla informally featured a quest that obviously nodded to the famous series One-Punch Man.
