Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's expected for doubts to be asked about his future after a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest streak since being demoted in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got a lot of support from above,” Slot remarked.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”

He noted, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with The Board

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:

“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”

He mentioned, “During our regular exchanges I perceive the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this match yet so it remains to be seen.”

Persistent Problems and Player Reaction

The manager lamented recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.

“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder said.

“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club for years.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase such as this with results this poor.”

Jones stated, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until that badge is removed, we'll continue to fight.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”

“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
